Chatty Café Scheme grows in popularity!
The Chatty Café scheme was set up by local
resident Alexandra Hoskyn with the aim of
enabling people who would like to chat to
someone when out in a café to be able to do
so more easily. With this in mind ‘Chatter
and Natter’ tables were set up. There are
now an incredible 611 tables across the UK.
Says Alexandra, “
One thing we’ve realised
in these past few months is that cafes/coffee
shops - whatever you want to call them -
are an absolutely vital community resource.
The staff working in them are (on the
whole!) lovely, friendly and welcoming
people. This is a workforce that are actually
out there, on the front line, with people, and
going off the amount of cafes that are
joining the scheme, they know the benefits
of people chatting to other people and they
want to enable it to happen more often.
“We want to give a massive shout out to all
the people out there running and working in
cafés who are sometimes the only people a
person may speak to in a day. The reason
this scheme was set up was because I was
out of the house all day, yet didn't interact
with another human. This scheme is not
really for people that don't leave the house:
instead it is for those who do, but who may
STILL spend days without face to face
The scheme has spread far and wide! The
GibSams, who are the Samaritans in
Gibraltar, have got right behind the scheme
and managed to get 28 venues in Gibraltar
to have a Chatter and Natter table.
